Safe Sitter® Programs

Not just a Class. A Cause.

YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region offers Safe Sitter training to young teens to prepare them to stay home alone safely, care for younger siblings, and how to get their first jobs as babysitters. The curriculum includes topics such as babysitting as a business, infant and child choking rescue, injury prevention and injury management, behavior management, and sitter safety.

Our instructors are Safe Sitter certified. Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized program that is medically accurate and developmentally-appropriate for young teens. Visit www.safesitter.org to learn more.

  • Safety Skills: Indoor safety, outdoor safety, online safety, and personal safety.
  • Child Care Skills: Child development, child care routines (including diapering practice), and behavior management.
  • First Aid & Rescue Skills: Injury prevention, injury management, choking rescue, CPR overview.
  • Life & Business Skills: Screening jobs, setting fees, and greeting employers.

Safe@Home

Wednesday, June 26th, 2019 9:00am-10:30am & 3:30pm-5:00pm

Type: One Day Course
Description: Safe@Home is a 90-minute program that teaches students how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.
Safe@Home is ideal for students that have expressed interest in assuming the responsibility of staying home alone. Students that are interested in learning how to stay home alone safely as well as care for younger children should complete one of our comprehensive Safe Sitter® courses (see options above).
Fee: $45 each
